PRESENTATION
OF THE ACTION, 2004
This action takes
place for the year of the 20th anniversary of our cultural association
OMDAC in 2004 (Martinican Organization for the development of Arts et
Culture).
20 years ago, Mr Yv-Mari SERALINE, président of OMDAC, wrote a
play to allow 65 young martinicans to express themselves through Arts
under the name of a musical called « Break Opera ».
Since this date, this approach of insertion of the youth through
culture has been developped by OMDAC and re-enforced by a program of
connexion between the young caribbean people.
In this spirit, Mr SERALINE, set for 2004 a new project of musical
called "Break Opera 2"

EXPERIENCE
The
OMDAC association organize since 1985 a meeting between the young
martinican people called « 2 weeks for young people of Martinique
». Since 2002, this operation is open to the young people of the
caribbean countries.
In 2002 we welcomed delegations from Dominica, St Lucia, Anguilla and
Guadeloupe. Some young people from Cuba living in Martinique also
represent their country.
240 young people aged from 15 to 28 were present during those 2 weeks
and had the opportunity to do things together.
PRINCIPES
OF THE MANIFESTATION
This meeting
will take place from the 12th to the 26th of august all around the
island of Martinique. It’s a way, like last year, to help exchanges by
giving the young martinican the opportunity to meet the other young
caribbean people around federating themes and activities.
For this year the main themes developped will be the question of fresh
water (celebrated internationally by Unesco),and the prevention of HIV.
There will have activities like artistic expression, workshops,
debates, sports, island discovery tours.
This manifestation is a non-profits organization so there will have no
fee. It’s open to every association, informal group of young people or
even individuals wanting to take part in our activities and bring
contribution by presenting :
1) an exibit on their country (post cards, photos, documents,
newspaper, and so on) or a videotape to promote their country because
martinican people like to travel in the caribbean and need information
about the different countries.
2) artistic show about the culture of their country (danse, music,
theater, poetry, paintings)
3) participation in the debates on the themes choosen this year : save
fresh water in the caribbean, young people and Arts, prevention and
struggle against HIV and alcool, young people and the longlasting
development of the caribbean, tourism…)
4) if possible, sports by participating to creation tournaments (beach
volley, soccer, basket ball and others)
