Report

The dynamism created by the 5 former editions of “quinzaine de la jeunesse caribéenne” our youth meeting, is going on and growing thanks to the number of different countries which participate every year and the interest shown by certain networks like the “youth PATH” project held by UNESCO which sent this year delegates from Barbabos, Bahamas, Grenada and St-Lucia.
For the first time, we welcomed young delegates from Jamaïca, Puerto-Rico and Dominican Republic.
This action remains modest because of our budget. Luckily, we have the financial support of the Regional council of Martinique, our partner and the technical support of the town which welcomed the youngsters.
The philosophy developped by our association is now well understood by all our discussion partners, as the delegates themselves testifyed it in different occasions during the panel discussions or when interviewed by the local press.
The camp part, with the experience of collective life in Ste-Anne, allowed the participants to better know each other and created strong links for the action.
The mobilisation of the young martinican participants is growing and despite the failure of the town of Lamentin, the members of the youth councils of Martinique took an active part in the meeting specially in Ducos and Précheur.
The “quinzaine de la jeunesse caribéenne” has probably become an important moment for the caribbean consciousness if we take into account the craze for the meeting in our neighbouring countries and the interest of the participants who already formulated projects for the next edition.
We cannot stay without speaking of the problems caused by the refusal of some french embassies to deliver visas for some of the caribbean delegations to come and partipate in the meeting. This problem was not only supported by our association but also by other associations of Martinique which invited caribbean poeple to Martinique at the same period.
The program annonced for the meeting was totally achieve and the participants as well as the public had some intense moments of exchanges through the debates and the cultural performances of the different delegations.
